Bartın University School of Foreign Languages organized a disaster awareness training session to raise students’ awareness of disasters and help them develop appropriate responses in emergency situations.
The training, held on Friday, February 27, 2026, was delivered by Uzay Ayyar, Ela Tanır, and Ferdi Alpaklı from the Bartın Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD). During the session, students were reminded that Türkiye is located in an earthquake-prone region, and basic precautions against disasters were explained in detail.
The training covered key topics such as family emergency planning, evacuation and assembly areas, the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” technique during earthquakes, and the preparation of an emergency disaster kit containing essential supplies for the first 72 hours.
In addition to theoretical information, students had the opportunity to learn how to act during a possible evacuation through practical demonstrations by the instructors. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, emphasizing that disaster preparedness is not a choice, but a necessity.
We would like to thank the instructors from Bartın Provincial AFAD for their valuable contributions and our students for their active participation.
