15th School of Foreign Languages Administrators Meeting Held at BARU

The 15th gathering of School of Foreign Languages Administrators convened at Bartın University (BARU), drawing participants from 108 universities and 14 companies to brainstorm suggestions for the future landscape of foreign language education.

Bartın University (BARU) recently hosted the 'School of Foreign Languages Administrators Meeting' for its 15th annual session. This meeting brought together 295 field experts from 108 universities and 14 companies. The discussions unfolded across 11 different halls at the BARU Kutlubey Campus Education Faculty Conference Hall, focusing on educational processes and training within the realm of foreign languages. Over the course of two days, panels exchanged insights on the current academic environment, student potentials, and curriculum development.

Dedicated focus groups delved into generating solutions. Stakeholder institutions and organizations played a pivotal role, offering presentations alongside administrators from higher education institutions' School of Foreign Languages. The event, enriched by workshops from focus groups, covered themes such as "Program Development Processes in Preparatory Programs," "Assessment-Evaluation Processes," "General Legislation and Personnel Rights," "Education-Training Processes for Foreign Languages Other than English," and "Good Practice Examples." Collaborative efforts resulted in suggested solutions for various challenges encountered within the education and training processes.

BARU Rector, Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, emphasized the meeting's significance in the context of foreign language education, stating, "Mastering a second language is imperative in our era. It significantly enriches individuals across realms such as culture, art, science, technology, economy, and fostering mutual understanding. I consider the discussions held at our University regarding foreign language learning extremely valuable. I extend my congratulations to our School of Foreign Languages Director, Dr. [Name], for their contributions in shaping our future endeavors. I also express gratitude to the Founding President of the School of Foreign Languages Administrators Platform, Prof. [Name], for their participation and invaluable support. I thank all our stakeholders collectively," he expressed.

Dr. Lecturer Member Burcu Şentürk, BARU's School of Foreign Languages Director, expressed gratitude towards participants, supporting institutions, and organizations, emphasizing the increasing necessity for multilingual proficiency in today's world. "Being proficient in a foreign language, coupled with information technologies, is indispensable for professional advancement. We recognize the steps needed to learn, understand, embrace, and contribute to the technology and science of our age in this field. With this awareness, we conclude a highly productive meeting. I extend heartfelt appreciation to our University Rector, Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, for his unwavering support and to all BARU members. Additionally, I thank our esteemed teacher, Prof. [Name], for their motivational guidance towards our future. I extend gratitude, alongside Hüsnü Enginarlar, to our esteemed professors from various universities, sector representatives, and sponsors for their valuable contributions," she conveyed.

The event's closure saw a collective decision to host the 2024 meeting at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, where discussions about the future of foreign language education were on the agenda. The 15th School of Foreign Languages Administrators Meeting garnered support from leading institutions and organizations in the field, including Burlington English, Cambridge, English Central, ETS Global, ILS WEXT, Macmillan Education, Mc Graw Hill, NSLS Education, National Geographic Learning, Oxford University Press, Pearson, and the Regional English Language Office.
